THE FUNDY LOOK OUT
The rugged geology and natural beauty of the Bay of Fundy wilderness was the inspiration for the creation of the 41-km (25-mi.) Fundy Footpath, whose unique ecosystem can only be appreciated on foot, in the ambience of the Bay of Fundy microclimate. The frequent fog and mist lend an otherworldly appearance to the rugged geological faults of the coast, outcrops and the deep V-shaped river valleys. Century–old trees, thick and dark forests are contrasted with spectacular vistas from the uplands when fog and mist are cleared by the warmth of the mid-morning sun. The trails connect to paths and stairways that lead us to pristine beaches and tumbling waterfalls, Precambrian rocks, and 820 foot cliffs that tower at the water’s edge. This challenging 3-5 day hike follows along the longest stretch of undeveloped coastline on the Eastern Seaboard.
